How to be a delegate at

Fantasy Model UN

Chase the Shadows Prologue is taking inspiration from Model United Nations and Fantasy Young Adult fiction. Okay- so what does that mean in practice? Maybe you weren’t/aren’t that type of nerd… do you need to memorise Model UN rules to play? Do you need to have read ‘x or y’ YA fantasy novel?

Nope! The key here is ‘influenced by’ -- here are five points to ensure you get the most out of the events as a player.

Five suggestions for play

  1. Lean into the role as ‘diplomat’ and roleplay accordingly. You will be interacting with other characters that your character likely considers their mortal enemy - perhaps with grudges that have lasted a thousand years -yet, something has occurred in your character’s history to have brought them to this point, willing to try and commit to a peace.

  2. Please when you are at the table, take the time to both listen to your fellow delegates and be polite when making your point, and please follow the rules the order of speaking. The Chair and Advisors are around to help and clarify any questions you may have about the negotiations.

  3. Attempt to influence the negotiations from both inside and outside the room by writing notes. We will have a number of very keen Oracles who will be waiting to help advance / and or impede your plot - please use them!

  4. YA Fiction is full of Characters with a capital C - feel free to lean into the standard tropes and figure out how they’d react at a peace summit.

  5. While being a shouty bastard of a character is definitely a roleplaying choice, it’s not one we’d advise for this game. That’s not to say that you can’t… but there is an art to insulting those who disagree with you in a painfully polite way and taking quiet satisfaction in managing to outmaneuver your opponents using bureaucratic procedures and backroom alliance building, which is much more the style of game we’d like to encourage. Embrace your inner Machiavelli!
