Character Creation Steps
Choose your faction
There are four distinct factions taking part in these negotiations, Changelings, Hunters, Vampires and Werewolves, each of which provides you with a group of potential allies and rivals.
Example: Alasdair reads the different faction pages and decides they want to play a Werewolf
Choose your philosophy
Each faction also has three philosophies that its members (more or less) align with, which can guide how you choose to interact with your faction, other factions and the mundane world
Example: Alasdair sees their character as embracing the werewolf gift, but concerned about the lack of wild wolves in Britain giving their pack cover. They pick “Wulver” as their philosophy.
Name your character
Chase the Shadows takes place during different periods through history. Feel free to adopt names that were popular at the time, select wildly outlandish names for characters who do not interact with the mundane world, or somewhere in between.
Example: Alasdair’s decides their character’s pack is reclusive, taking on names relating to their deeds and abilities, so chooses the name “Rudolf Sharpfang”
Choose your leverage and how it connects you to another faction
Leverage is something that you might use or might be used against you in the negotiations.
You have the choice from three options
1. An object another faction might desire which could be used as a bargaining chip
Examples: Part of an alchemical formula that might cure lycanthropy. A rare phial of potent Changeling blood.
2. A specific grievance against a faction that you want to address
Examples: A Changeling cursed a Hunter or their ancestors and the Hunter’s family swore a personal vendetta. A Werewolf and a Vampire have a rivalry over hunting grounds.
3. A hidden sympathy to one of the other factions
Examples: A Hunter’s life was once saved by a Werewolf. A Changeling was the lover of a Werewolf’s ancestor. A Vampire and a Changeling have been drinking buddies for the last six centuries.
Your leverage will be unique to your character; after booking forms have been received, the crew will speak with you about what form your leverage may take. Where possible we will try and link leverages relating to grievances or sympathies to other characters who will be attending, should you wish.
Write your character profile
Write a brief piece about your character and why they were chosen to be part of this negotiation. These profiles can be written by your character or one of their colleagues, friends or subordinates to provide some extra flavour. These profiles will be collated into a delegate guide and will be sent out to every player prior to the event.
Answer the remaining questions about your character’s actions during the past 50 years since the Accords have been signed
The answers to the final two questions will not be made widely public but may be used to develop leverages, as described above.
Everyone involved in these negotiations has lost something through advancing their faction’s goals. This can be an heirloom, a powerful artifact, a person, a relationship - what personally have you lost in the years since the Accords were signed?
Everyone involved in these negotiations has done terrible things to advance their faction’s goals and not... exactly followed the spirit of the Accords. What have you done in the past years since the Accords were signed that you would prefer to not be made public during these negotiations?
